A Bulletin on Vertigo A Bulletin on Vertigo is a professionally replicated and shrink-wrapped CD. From some of the reviews: Headley's sound is occlusive: it starts from hidden cells, slowly coming to the surface through hell-bent force, finally liberating in the daylight in its own full meaning. Nothing more can be seen backing up these pieces, which are really peculiar and look at you stone-faced. The focus is on a flow of events, rather than a patchwork of colors. The ominous drones roamed by chirping aliens in Drawn From Memory and Subliminal Motion evoke a dramatic atmosphere reminiscent of Brian Eno's Before and After Science (needless to say, the "after" is more relevant here). The clear sound forces you to listen and discover the sound world of Headley. The tracks together add up to a nice album, but make sure you realize this is not an album you can put on while you need to concentrate on something else. It will grab your attention and only lets it go only after the very last tone has ended. Nine elegant and well-structured pieces of music. The result of Headley’s work are soundbits woven into intricate textures that are really hard to describe and impossible to guess where they come from. Sometimes the tracks build up slowly, with new sounds creeping in slowly, while others are fade out just as slowly. Like the continents moving or the sun drying out a wet spot. As early as the first piece you'll find interesting rhythm gradations. Further on, you'll come across ionizing electronics, walk on the fringes of music: glitches, drones and plethora of sundry sonic details. |
